INsurance

It depends. If you don’t have severe damage we encourage you to wait to avoid having to file 2 claims with 2 deductibles should there be a second storm right around the corner.

However, if your storm damage is severe then by all means file a claim right away.

Your mortgage and insurance company want you to take 3 important steps after your home has suffered a loss:

» prevent the damage from getting worse
» begin to collect estimates
» then file a claim

At Final Cut, we can assist you with every step of the process.

No!

In the state of Texas, your homeowner’s insurance company can not raise your premium or deny you coverage for filing an insurance claim for wind, hail, or lighting. Simply because there is no way to prevent them from happening. On the other hand, non-weather related claims may raise your insurance premium but only when it is time to renew your policy.

After placing your claim, your insurance company is obligated to respond within 10 business days. If a loss has accrued, your insurance company must provide you with a portion of the expenses within 30 days. Most insurance companies can process your claim within 7-10 business days.

In the state of Texas, you have 365 days (one year) from the “date of loss” to file and/or collect all of your insurance proceeds. If you need more time, you will need to request an extension; usually in writing. Keep in mind this allowed time is not from the date you discovered the loss. It is from the “date of loss” that can be verified. Contact us for more details about verifying a date of loss for storm damage.

No problem. Our contractors can help you file a “supplement claim.” A supplement claim can be applied for many reasons such as a material price increase or items that your adjuster may have missed. It typically takes your insurance company 7-10 business days to receive, review, and approve a supplement claim for the additional funds needed to complete your project.

Important note:

You must not make any repairs before requesting a supplement claim. In some cases, your insurance may need to re-inspect the property or the items you are requesting a supplement for. You may only make repairs for emergency related items. If you make repairs without an approval your supplement claim may be denied.

Roofing

Throughout the hot and cold seasons, your shingles expand and contract. This process can cause small gaps to form, the adhesive of the silicon to deteriorate, and your shingles to shed its granules. The result is that your shingles soften and/or weaken and become more vulnerable to storm damage. Generally, it’s best to have one of our contractors assess your roof every 6-8 years.

Subject to city ordinance, we can begin work at 7 am and begin operating heavy machinery at 8 am. Our installers are required to end their work half an hour before sunset. Typically, to remove and replace one layer of shingles on a one-story house will only take us just one day! Facing unexpected additional construction or large roof replacement projects will take no more than two days. This includes a thorough clean-up.

No!

At Final Cut Roofing and Construction LLC, we are invested in the appearance and functionality of your roof for the life of its expectancy. We strongly discourage “Over-layering” due to the fact that this increases the weight of your roof dramatically. This can cause a tremendous amount of permanent, irreversible damage to your roof or your attic structure.

Proper attic ventilation will significantly reduce your energy bill and dramatically prolong the lifespan of your shingles. Improper attic ventilation may cause defects that are not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty and may make your roof more susceptible to storm damage.

Hail Impact Resistant Shingles, also known as Class-4,  are some of the toughest shingles on the market. They can withstand up to egg size hail within the first 8-10 years of the shingle lifespan. Most insurance companies provide up to 20% off of your insurance premiums for installing these shingles.

Quick Note: It’s important to understand that these shingles are hail resistant, not hail proof. That being said, the age of a shingle does contribute to loss of granules that can make the shingle susceptible to storm damage.

Siding

The short answer is yes. To be detailed, soffit vents get dirty and clogged over years and should be replaced about every ten years. In most cases, when we remove a soffit vent we discover the hole the vent sits on was not adequate and the size needs to be increased. You wouldn’t know that if you don’t replace your soffit vents.

Depending on the size of your home, it can take us about 1 to 2 weeks for a full siding replacement. This includes prepping and painting which can take up a significant amount of time.

Yes, absolutely! High quality exterior paint is much more durable than ordinary interior bedroom paint. They’re design to withstand the elements of nature such high rain, dirty, and the sun’s harmful UV rays. Using the wrong paint will result in early cracking and peeling which can lead to rotting.
